Proposals to build new affordable homes on the site of a former sheltered housing scheme have been approved by Caerphilly County Borough Council’s Planning Committee.

Caerphilly Homes, the Council’s housing division, plans to build 16 social rented homes on the former Castle Court site on Silver Street, Pontywaun.  The development will consist of a mix of one-bed apartments, and two and three bed houses.

The plans also include public green spaces, landscaping, sustainable drainage and car parking for residents.

Cllr Shayne Cook, Caerphilly Council’s Cabinet Member for Housing, said “This comes as welcome news in helping us deliver the promise we made in 2023 to deliver 1,000 new low-carbon affordable homes over the next ten years.

“The Pontywaun development will allow us to breathe new life into an existing housing site that had become unfit for its original purpose, whilst helping to meet ever increasing need for affordable housing in the borough.”
