Cabinet approves intermediate rent policy
Caerphilly County Borough Council’s Cabinet has unanimously approved a new intermediate rent policy, aimed at expanding affordable housing options to address local need.
The policy supports the Council’s programme to deliver 1,000 affordable homes and will introduce more intermediate rent homes for people on low to moderate incomes who cannot afford to buy but can afford to pay more than a social rent. Rents will typically be set at around 80% of market levels.
The policy aims to:
- Provide more affordable housing choice
- Support mixed and sustainable communities
- Reduce pressure on social housing and temporary accommodation
Intermediate rent homes will be delivered where there is identified need and where schemes are viable.
Cllr Shayne Cook, Caerphilly Council’s Deputy Leader and Cabinet Member for Housing, said “This is an important step in helping us tackle the significant housing challenges we face across the borough. The introduction of intermediate rental properties will provide more affordable options for residents who are currently priced out of the housing market, helping us respond to growing demand and a wide range of needs.
“By offering a wider mix of homes within our developments, we can create more balanced and sustainable communities while also helping to reduce pressures on temporary accommodation.”
