Caerphilly Council signs Placemaking Charter
Caerphilly County Borough Council has given its commitment to ensuring placemaking principles are at the heart of its development programme.
The Council has signed up to the Placemaking Wales Charter, which sets out principles for developing high quality places for the benefit of communities. In signing the Charter, the Council has agreed to adopt six placemaking principles when planning, designing and managing new and existing places.
Principles outlined in the Charter, developed by Welsh Government and the Design Commission for Wales, include:
- Involving people and communities in the development of proposals.
- Choosing sustainable locations for new development.
- Prioritising active travel and public transport.
- Promote a mix of uses.
- Creating inclusive, well defined, safe and welcoming streets and public spaces.
- Respecting the distinctive qualities and unique features of existing places.
Cllr Sean Morgan, Leader of Caerphilly Council, said “The placemaking ethos sits at the heart of the Council. By becoming a signatory to the Charter we are demonstrating our firm commitment to take a holistic approach to all of our developments.”
