FAQs about Castle Court

Where will the development be located?

The development will be located on the former Castle Court sheltered housing scheme site on Silver Street in Pontywaun.

Who is developing the site?

Caerphilly County Borough Council is developing the site, with its housing team, Caerphilly Homes, responsible for overseeing the project. The team will appoint specialist contractors and consultants to help deliver the project; the details of these will be shared with residents when they are known.

How is the development being funded?

Funding comes from a combination of council investment and external grant support (such as Welsh Government) allocated to increase local housing provision.

Does this mean council tax is going up to pay for new houses to be built?

Council tax is not used for this purpose. The rental income from existing homes is recycled to maintain existing homes and build new ones.

How many homes are being built?

8 one-bedroom apartments, 4 two-bedroom homes and 4 three-bedroom homes.

Why are the homes being built?

Everyone should be able to access a safe, secure, high-quality affordable home. But as the national housing crisis continues the demand for all types of homes is increasing. Homes on this development will be available for social rent to help meet local housing needs.

What are the timescales?

Timescales are not available yet. As soon as a contractor is appointed further information will be shared with residents.

Who will live in the new homes?

Homes on the development will be allocated to eligible people registered for social housing on the Caerphilly common housing register, in line with the common allocation policy.

How can people apply to rent a home on the development?
